Zvikomborero Maria Makedenge, a 33-year-old Zimbabwean woman residing in the United States, is facing charges of unlawful s3xual conduct with a minor at the Harare Magistrates Court.
The trial, which began on December 2, accuses her of forcing herself on a 16-year-old boy in a case that has sparked widespread debate after a graphic video allegedly depicting the encounter surfaced online.

According to court documents and prosecution statements, the alleged incident occurred on August 2, 2025, in the Glen View suburb of Harare.
Makedenge, who is reportedly employed in the US and was visiting Zimbabwe at the time, is said to have been the girlfriend of a tenant living in the boy’s family home.

Prosecutors allege that while the boy was alone at home, Makedenge followed him into his bedroom, where she engaged in unprotected s3xual intercourse without his consent.
Following the act, she reportedly instructed the teenager not to disclose the matter and promised to take him to the United States as an incentive to remain silent.

The boy, whose identity is protected due to his age, claims he was coerced and did not consent to the encounter.
He confided in his sister shortly after, who informed their mother. The mother then reported the incident to Mbare Police Station, leading to Makedenge’s arrest.

Under Zimbabwean law, the age of consent is 18, rendering any s3xual activ!ity with a 16-year-old illegal and potentially carrying severe penalties, including imprisonment.
Makedenge, represented by lawyer Lennon Itai Rwizi, was granted bail of US$100 following her initial court appearance on November 28, 2025.

The state confirmed at that hearing that investigations were complete, remanding her to trial on December 2.
The case gained significant attention this week after a video, purportedly filmed by the boy during the encounter, trends across social media platforms, amassing millions of views.

Makedenge has denied the allegations, pleading not guilty. Her legal team has yet to issue a public statement on the leaked video.
The trial is expected to continue in the coming days, with the prosecution relying on the boy’s testimony and any corroborating evidence.
