Michael Soussoudis, in order to get classified information from the CIA, lured Sharon, a clerk with the CIA into a relationship which lasted for 18 months.

The affair between Soussoudis and Sharon hit off somewhere in May 1983, and came to an end in October 1984 after Soussoudis successfully got her to divulge confidential information to him.

Apparently, Sharon revealed to the CIA station chief in Ghana of her relationship with Soussoudis and the chief told her to be vigilant in her dealings with Soussoudis.

Unbeknownst to Sharon, Soussoudis was sent on a mission to gain information about USA intelligence from her and things were made easier through their affair.

Due to the affair and how much Sharon had come to love and trust Soussoudis, she gave him the names of “Ghanaian citizens who were spying for the CIA, as well as plans for a coup against the Ghanaian government by dissident.”

After laying his hands on these informations, Soussoudis passed the information to the Ghanaian intelligence Chief, the late Kojo Tsikata.

Sharon returned to the United States in 1985 and had to go through a routine polygraph test which she reportedly failed, causinging the CIA to probe further to find out what she did.

The authorities in the CIA found out that Sharon gave Soussoudis “sensitive documents and the names of virtually everyone working for the C.I.A. in the country.”

Investigations began and Sharon, together with the FBI began planning and plotting on how to get Soussoudis to travel to the US to be arrested. Sharon assisted the FBI and managed to lure Soussoudis to the USA.

Soussoudis was arrested when he traveled to the USA after Sharon told him to meet him at a motel in northern Virginia. He was arrested and charged with eight counts of espionage.

Soussoudis was sentenced to 20 years in prison, but was later on released in “exchange for the Ghanaians arrested as CIA spies, who were deported to the United States and stripped of their Ghanaian citizenship.”

The information Soussoudis obtained from Sharon led to the arrest of eight Ghanaian citizens who had been spying for the CIA. They received sentences ranging from 25 years in prison with hard labour to life imprisonment.
