A report by NGO, a Norway-based Iran Human Rights (IHR) group, has revealed that executions are at its peak in Iran.
NGO counts and verifies executions in Iran on a daily basis.

According to the report by NGO, Iran has executed at least 1,000 people so far in 2025, denouncing a “mass killing campaign” in prisons in the Islamic Republic.
At least 64 of the executions took place in the past week alone. There is also an average of more than 9 hangings per day.
The number marks a harsh surge from 2024’s record 975 executions, which was the highest since the group began tracking in 2008.

Executions surged 119% in the first half of 2025 alone. 612 were recorded from January to June, including 98 in June.
Drug-related offenses account for nearly half followed by murder charges. Security-related cases and those involving minorities are also disproportionately high.

According to the NGO, the surge in executions is as a result of the current regime’s use of capital punishment as a mode of addressing offenses.
