Nigerian government deploys the first batch of anti phone snatching marshals to fight phone theft

Phone theft is a very common on the streets, especially in sub Saharan Africa. One has to also be on alert and guard to not fall victim.

Thieves have over the years perfected their skills in the craft to the extent that one cannot even detect when the phone is being taken from him/her.

To tackle rising cases of phone snatching and related street crimes, the Kano State Government has deployed 380 marshals as part of its newly formed Special Anti-Phone-Snatching and VIP Protection Guards.

The state aims to strengthen public trust in security, reduce crime in busy spots (bus stops, markets, etc.), and give youth opportunities to participate in restoring order.

The 380 volunteers are the first batch to have undergone a two-week intensive training at the Kano State Corporate Security Institute in Gabasawa.

They received training in phone-snatching prevention, VIP protection, defensive driving, physical drills, surveillance, and collaboration with agencies like NDLEA and Hisbah.

The initiative is also to help reduce unemployment while addressing the menace of phone snatching among youths.
