World Aids Day: 334,000 Ghanaians are living with HIV

The Ghana Aids Commission has released some terrifying statistics about how people are getting HIV/Aids directly and indirectly after different encounters with people.

One health problem every person fears is contracting HIV, but it seems people are not ready to prevent it by protecting themselves.

The first way to avoid HIV and its spread is abstaining from sex, the second way is knowing your status as an individual, and the last way is using protection during intercourse.

Abstaining until whenever will keep you safe entirely, but in most cases, you will be free. However, do not use sharp objects used by others without sterilizing them.

People who regularly do health check-ups know their status to avoid getting it or spreading it, because some people engage in intercourse frequently without knowing their status or that of the person. It increases the chances of getting HIV.

The last way of avoiding or spreading it is using condoms.
Reports indicate that at least 50 people get HIV every day in Ghana, and these figures are scary, considering the age bracket of the affected.

On November 24, 2025, Dr. Fred Nana Poku, Director of Technical Services at the Ghana AIDS Commission, revealed on Accra FM that over 15,290 new HIV cases were recorded last year(2024), with young people aged 15 to 24 accounting for about 4,700 representing 31% of the total, and marking a significant rise in youth infections compared to previous years.

The Central Regional Technical Coordinator for the Ghana Aids Commission, William Kwaku Yeboah, on December 1, 2025, World Aids Day, disclosed that people take the measures above seriously to avoid the spreading of the killer disease, and also said that Ghana now has 334,000 positive HIV cases, which is very unfortunate.

Most people refuse to disclose their status with anyone because of the fear of segregation, which is part of human nature.

They fear rejection, and so they keep it to themselves and spread it or just abstain to protect others without revealing their deepest secret as an HIV carrier.

The Ghana Aids Commission has constantly been hammering on showing HIV patients love and care instead of rejecting them because not all people get affected through intercourse, some get affected through sharp objects used by others, and some were born with it.
