Venezuelans march the streets of Caracas to protest the arrest of Nicolas Maduro

Thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets of Caracas on Tuesday, demanding the immediate release of their President

President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were seized by U.S. forces in a military operation over the weekend.

The demonstration drew large crowds near the National Assembly building and other central parts of the capital.

People were captured waving the Venezuelan flags and chanting slogans in support of the detained leader and First Lady.

Many of those gathered described Maduro’s removal as a “violent abduction” and called on the international community to press for his return.

Among the crowd marching was Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello, one of those named in U.S. indictments.

Supporters marched to show that, despite the U.S. raid, there is still a significant base of public backing for Maduro’s government and resistance to foreign intervention. 

Venezuela’s interim administration, led by Delcy Rodríguez, has insisted that the country’s institutions remain in place and rejected claims of foreign control as claimed by Trump.
