One of the world’s most aged yet active volcanoes, Kilauea, erupted earlier as new activities are being recorded on site.

Kīlauea Volcano in Hawaii recorded a new volcanic event on January 12, extending its ongoing activity into 2026.

The eruption occurred within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, where scientists observed fresh lava flows and increased volcanic gas emissions.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the activity was concentrated around the summit region and parts of the volcano’s rift zones.

Lava was seen moving slowly across the crater floor, producing glowing fountains and thick plumes of steam.

Seismic monitors detected heightened tremors in the hours leading up to the eruption, signaling rising magma beneath the surface.

No injuries or property damage were reported, but park officials temporarily restricted access to nearby viewing areas for safety.

Kīlauea is one of the most active volcanoes on Earth and has erupted repeatedly over the past several years.
