Researchers have uncovered new evidence suggesting that Mount Everest’s highest point was once underwater millions of years ago.

The discovery comes from a recent geological study of rock samples taken from the summit region of the world’s tallest mountain.

Scientists found marine limestone and fossilised sea creatures embedded in rocks near Everest’s peak.

According to the researchers, the rocks date back more than 400 million years. At that time, the area where Everest now stands was part of a shallow sea.

The findings support the theory that the Indian tectonic plate collided with the Eurasian plate, forcing the ocean floor upward.

Over millions of years, that collision created the Himalayan mountain range. Everest, which rises 8,848.86 metres above sea level, is still growing today.

Geologists say the mountain continues to rise by a few millimetres each year due to ongoing tectonic movement.

The study adds to growing evidence that the highest place on Earth was once beneath ancient oceans.

However, some social media users and Christians believe the discovery shows the existence of God and his word.

The claim that, if scientists had read their bible the study will be of no need as Everest’s highest point was submerged during Noah’s era.
