Abu Trica Discharged After FBI Busted Him With Fr@ud Charges

The Gbese District Court in Accra has today, January 26, 2026, discharged Abu Trica after spending weeks in custody over alleged fraud charges.

On December 11, 2025, The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI, arrested Ghanaian socialite, Frederick Kumi, also known as Abu Trica, and 2 others who were with him for an alleged involvement in a fraudulent activity that extorted $8 Million from victims.

Abu Trica is an internet sensation who unusually flaunts his unexplained wealth on social media, especially on Snapchat. He posts his lavish lifestyle, expensive cars, and luxurious places he enjoys holidays in his stories, which raises eyebrows.

The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, had previously promised to clamp down on the high rate of romance scams and internet fraud, so the arrest of Abu was not a surprise.

Big Boys like Dada Joe and Kofi Boat have been extradited by the FBI for being part of a fraud chain that duped its victims for about $100 Million.

After Abu’s arrest, the following were his charges.

  1. He has been accused of Romance Scam, a section defrauding where he lures old women to fall in love with him using AI images, posing as a beautiful girl to extort money from them indirectly.
  2. He had been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.

He risked facing up to 20 years in prison if found guilty, if the FBI conducts a thorough investigation.

Today, January 26, 2026, Oliver Barker Vomawor, who is a member of Abu Trica’s legal counsel, has posted on his official X Facebook account that his client has been discharged.

He also revealed that the NACOC tried to rearrest his client, but the judge was offended.
