Ama Governor and other democracy hub protesters granted GHS 700K bail each

Nine Democracy hub protesters including Ama Governor have finally gain some freedom after securing a  bail of GHC700,000 with two sureties each.

Reports we gatherrd indicates the accused must report to the police once a week and deposit their Ghana cards at the court registry as part of the bail condition.

This decision follows an appeal against an earlier ruling by the circuit court, which had denied them bail, leaving them behind bars.

The nine members granted bail today were part of the 53 people arrested by the Ghana police service during a protest.

They were charged with unlawful assembly, unlawful damage, assaulting a public officer, and offensive conduct conducive to breaching the peace.

The said charges stem from their  involvement in disturbances created during a protest against illegal mining (galamsey) in the country.

Despite opposition from the state, the court granted the bail application submitted by the defense lawyers.
