Opposition candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary on Tuesday proclaimed himself the winner of Cameroon’s October 12 presidential election
In a video released by Issa and his camp, he addressed Cameroon, his supporters, and other candidates.

He called on long-ruling President Paul Biya to accept defeat and respect the “truth of the ballot box.”
“Our victory is clear. It must be respected. The people have chosen. And this choice must be respected,” he added.

He went on to thank the people of Cameroon and other candidates who have already conceded defeat and called to congratulate him.
The announcement comes just two days after Presidential elections which was held on Sunday, October 12.

Official results are not expected until October 26, when the Constitutional Council will validate the outcome. Government has already dismissed premature declarations as illegal.
The declaration has ignited a flurry of reactions, including congratulations from groups like the Popular Action Party, which urged electoral bodies to honor the “sovereign will” of the people
