The Beautiful Game has a way of writing its own scripts, making every feat historic, and this time around, Cape Verde were featured in Gold.
In a Group with African Football Giants, Cameroon and Angola, that shocked the African continent by shining than expected in the AFCON 2023, but they all fell at the feet of Cape Verde in the group D of the African World Cup 2026 Qualifiers for the first time in their existence.
They accumulated 23 points by scoring 16 goals and conceding only 8.
Cape Verde finished ahead of Cameroon (19 points), Libya (16 points), Angola (12 points), Mauritius (6 points), and Swaziland (3 points).
During their campaign, they lost 1 match, drew 2, and won 7 matches.
In all their 16 goals, none of them was a penalty; they outplayed their opponents to score them.

Dailon Rocha scored four goals, Diney Borges scored, Jamiro Monteiro and Willy Semedo all scored 2 goals each, Jovane Cabral, Ryan Mendes, Sindy Lopes, Stopira, Telmo Arcanjo, and Yannick Semedo all scored 1 goal each.
Cape Verde has participated in World Cup Qualifiers since 2002, but they’ve never qualified. The closest they were was in 2014, when they reached a qualified round but got disqualified for fielding an ineligible player.

They finished third in the 2018 Qualifiers and 2 behind Nigeria in the 2022 Qualifiers.
On this day, October 13, 2025, Pedro Bubista from Cape Verde led his countrymen to their first World Cup by leading Cameroon.
