After being banned from numerous popular social media networks, former President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that he planned to start his own social media website called Truth Social.

The Trump Media and Technology Group announced in a press release that it has merged with Digital World Acquisition Corp. to create a publicly traded corporation with Trump as chairman.

“I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all,” Trump said in the statement.

After his supporters rushed the Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot, Trump was banned from the largest social media platforms — Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube — for fears that his continued presence on social media might instigate more violence.

YouTube stated its ban will be lifted once the “risk of violence” had decreased, Facebook said Trump might return to the platform by 2023 at the earliest, and Twitter indicated its ban would be indefinite.
