Dr. Bawumia is the next President of Ghana – Dr. Zaato, Snr. Lecturer at UG

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will select its presidential candidate on January 31, 2026, to work towards the 2028 election, and the two favorite candidates are the former Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, and the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Honorable Kennedy Agyapong.

The contest is proving to be a fierce one, as no one is ready to slow down.

The New Patriotic Party member, Dr. Joshua Zaato, a senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, and political analyst who sides with Team Bawumia, stated on TV3 during the Keypoints show that, based on all the provided statistics, Bawumia will lead the NPP and the General Elections in 2028.

Pollsters have conducted numerous studies about the internal elections of the NPP, and it seems all the candidates are below Bawumia.

Dr. Bawumia leads the current polls with 57%, Keneddy Agyapong comes second with 32%, Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency, Ashanti Region, is third with 4%, Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency in the Eastern Region comes fourth with 4% and Engineer Kwaben Agyapong also has 3% chance of winning the NPP primaries.

Zaato stated emphatically that the only right candidate who is more marketable, popular, and fit for the task is Bawumia.

He revealed that any candidate the National Democratic Congress, NDC, will provide can’t beat Bawumia because it will be like “Mike Tyson facing Bukom Banku”.

Delegates who prefer Bawumia to all the other candidates say he is the popular among them. He was very visible even as a Vice President, and so he will do better as the President.
