Euro 2020 – Raheem Sterling strike to hand England victory over Croatia

The three lion’s of England are off the mark with a narrow victory against World Cup Finalist Croatia.

The English team is spoilt with talents and everyone tipped them to beat Croatia comfortably in their European campaign opener playing on the home soil Wembley.

Fast rising Manchester City star, Phil Foden looks like he was going to give his side an early lead when his effort hit the post in the 6th minute.

England celebrating a goal

It was a one sided game with England commanding 61% of possession against that of Croatia’s 39 after half an hour of play. They however didn’t look threatening enough to break a discipline Croatia’s defense and that took the game into half time without a goal.

The breakthrough finally arrived early in the second half when Raheem Sterling timely found himself in the right position to tap Kalvin Philips cross into the back of the net.

The goal led to Croatia opening up the game using their wide wings but the presence of Walker and Trippier made that play unsuccessful and England couldn’t capitalized on it to grab their second even though they came close in getting that when Tyrone Mings’ header went straight into a team mate in the 74th minute.
