The Ghana Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been executing massive operations to clamp down on internet fraudsters in the country.
Popular business mogul and socialite, Kofi Boat and his associates, who amassed over $100 million from romance scams in the last decade and more, were busted just this year, and now their new catch is a young man identified as Frederick Kumi a.k.a. Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng, popularly known as Abu Trica, a 31-year-old resident of Swedru, for making $8 Million from vulnerbale American citizens.

He is known for flaunting his wealth on social media, especially Snapchat, where he posts bundles of cedis and other foreign currencies to prove he’s rich.
The 31-year-old was arrested in Ghana on December 11, 2025.
Abu Trica, as most of his friends call him, appeared from nowhere and was making waves on the internet as the new rich guy in town.
The suspect has been indicted on two counts.

- He has been accused of Romance Scam, a section defrauding where he lures old women to fall in love with him using AI images, posing as a beautiful girl to extort money from them indirectly.
- He had been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.

Abu faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty, if the FBI conducts a thorough investigation.
The case has been investigated by the FBI Cleveland Division and prosecuted under the Elder Justice Initiative with support from U.S. and Ghanaian authorities, as he has been on their radar since 2023.

The President of Ghana, John Mahama, in the middle of 2025, warned the youth to quit any form of defrauding or risk going to jail because his government is ready to fight it and win.
