Italian-based fashion house, Armani Group, has announced the death of its founder Giorgio Armani in a public statement.
“With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani,” a statement by the Milan-based fashion house read.

Armani died at his home in Milan on 4 September 2025 at the age of 91. Although his cause of death has not been revealed yet, it is believed to be natural.
Giorgio was born on July 11, 1934, to Ugo Armani, an accountant at a transport company, and Maria Raimondi. He had two siblings; an older brother and a younger sister.

His older brother, Sergio Armani, died in 1996. His younger sister is known as Rossana Armani. Rossana is a former model.

Armani had no woman or children in his life. Matter of fact, he was openly gay. He once said in Vanity Fair he’d had relationships with both men and women.
He had a long-term partnership with his business partner, architect, fashion designer, and businessman Sergio Galeotti, who passed away due to complications from AIDS in 1985.
Before fashion, Armani’s childhood dream was to be a doctor. In 1953, he enrolled at the University of Milan’s school of medicine.

Three years into medical school, he decided to dropout of school and join the Italian army. Due to his medical background, he was assigned to a military hospital in Verona.
After his career as an army personnel for two years, Armani decided to switch careers and enter into fashion industry in 1957.

He began working as a window dresser and sales clerk at La Rinascente. He later became a seller at their menswear department.
In the mid-60s, he joined Nino Cerruti as a designer. His fate changed around that time when he came across Sergio Galeotti, who would later become his lover.

Sergio Galeotti was an architectural draftsman. He was the one who persuaded Armani to open his own shop in Milan in 1973.
On 24 July 1975, Giorgio Armani S.p.A. was founded in Milan. In October that same year, he presented his first collection of men’s ready-to-wear for Spring and Summer of 1976 under his own name.

In the early 1980s, the company signed an important agreement with L’Oréal to create perfumes and cosmetics Armani Beauty and introduced the Armani Junior, Armani Jeans, and Emporio Armani lines, followed in 1982 by the introduction of Emporio Underwear, Swimwear, and Accessories.
At the time of his death, the fashion mogul had an estimated net worth of over $12 billion according to Forbes.
