Gun Shots fired as Agbogbloshie scrap dealers resist decongestion exercise, clash with the police

Scrap dealers in Agbogloshie are in a serious battle with police and Military personnels presence after attempts to eject them from the congested place.

The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council is currently on a decongestion exercise and that has affected some scrap dealers operating at Agbogbloshie.

The scrap dealers and onion traders at the affected areas are being relocated to Adjen Kotoku to help free the congestion in the central business district (CBD) of Accra as part of the agenda “Make Accra work”.

According to a report files by Grapic Online reporter Joshua Bediako Koomson, the exercise was going on smoothly until they reached the section occupied by scrap dealers.

The dealers set vehicle tyres ablaze, protesting against their relocation with claims they were served no eviction notice.

Their actions became very intense, throwing stones at the security personnel who in turn fired shots to disperse them.
