GWR: Ghanaian journalist breaks record for the longest time to hug a tree

New reports coming in from Guinness World Records is that, a 23-year-old Ghanaian male journalist is the current record holder for longest time to hug a tree.

The journalist who goes by the name, Abdul Hakim Awal hugged the tree in Kumasi at the cultural centre for a period of 24 hours and 21 minutes.

GWR revealed that Abdul Hakim stood for the entire period of his record breaking attempt and was not “permitted any breaks during his record attempt.”

He had his arms wrapped around the tree and stood in that position for over 24 hours. Abdul’s record broke the previous record set by a lady from Uganda.

Earlier this year, this Ugandan woman named Faith Patricia Ariokot who is also an environmental activist, hugged a tree for a duration of 16 hours.

On why he decided to embark on this tree hugging marathon, Abdul said: “We know how trees, an essential resource which the entire human race depends on, are becoming scarce in Ghana.“

“Though we have been taught about preservation of trees since the early years of our lives, the contribution from everyone is not as significant as it should be.“
