Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo is the official name of a South African Disc Jockey, DJ Black Coffee.

Aside being a DJ, he is also a songwriter, singer and record producer born on March 11, 1976.

Some of his wards and nominations include South Africa Music Awards, Metro FM Awards, BET Awards, DJ Awards and Dance Music Awards.

The Accident That Almost Changed His Life Forever.

DJ Black Coffee narrated how he nearly lost his life in an accident that damaged his hand.

According to him, the whole country of South Africa were excited upon hearing the release of the late Nelson Mandela.

Out of nowhere, a car that has lost control, drove through a crowd of people which he was included.

He recovered back to his senses when he found himself at the hospital.

Out of ignorance, the doctors thought it was a minor injury and sent him home to treat himself.

From there, he started experiencing pain in his arm and was sent to see a specialist who confirmed that the nerves on his shoulder were damaged.

Since then, DJ Black Coffee has lost the sense of feeling on that particular arm.

According to him, it has affected him negatively in so many ways.

However, as the saying goes that ‘disability is not inability’. DJ Black Coffee never gave up after years of struggling with the non-functioning arm. He pursued his career to become a successful DJ and record producer.

In 2005, DJ Black Coffee released his first self titled debut album which featured collaborations with prominent musicians such as Thandiswa Mazwai, Busi Mholongo and Hugh Masekela.

Later along the line in 2007, he dropped another album ‘Have Another One’ which became a hit and a commercial success.

His third album, ‘Home Brewed’ was also released in 2009.
