The “Campus Cat Identity Initiative,” shared recently by student welfare organizers and circulated widely on social media, designates some of the long-familiar cats as part of the university environment

The initiative was introduced by the University Relations Office (URO), in collaboration with the Quality Assurance and Planning Office (QAPO).

The initiative aims to recognize and promote the welfare of KNUST’s long-known resident cats that reside on and around its confines.

Two of the first feline “members” are Kwasi Joe and Kofi Sam, well-known to staff and students around the Main Administration block.

The new ID cards, issued under the designation “University Cat”, include the cats’ names, assigned campus location and care zone, and a symbolic validity period.

The university also announced that initiative will be rolled out in phases across identified cat zones. They will also ensure regular health checks, designated feeding points, and educational campaigns for the cats.
