Lagos police arrest popular TikTok influencer Peller for attempted su!c!de after viral reckless driving incident

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained 20-year-old social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller.

This comes after a viral video showing him driving recklessly during a live broadcast, in what authorities describe as an attempted suicide and dangerous stunt that endangered lives on the road.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 14 December 2025, when footage circulating online showed Peller speeding and driving dangerously on a busy Lagos road while streaming to his followers.

The video ended with his vehicle crashing, triggering airbags and drawing bystanders to the scene.

Police say his conduct not only put his own life at risk but also threatened other road users. The arrest was announced on the X (formerly Twitter) page of Lagos State Police Command.

In a statement on 16 December, the police confirmed the arrest and said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

Officials said the matter will be charged to a competent court once the probe is complete. Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh used the opportunity to issue a stern warning to social media influencers, content creators.

He warned against using digital platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous or unlawful behaviour that could lead to loss of life or breaches of peace.

Commissioner Jimoh stressed that such actions will not be tolerated and that offenders will face the full weight of the law.
