What are the odds and complications of sharing the same name with a high profile celeb? A lawyer just found out how and it’s not all that pretty.
An Indianapolis lawyer by name Mark Steven Zuckerberg is currently suing Meta and Facebook. According to the 38-year veteran bankruptcy attorney, the company has repeatedly been suspending his personal and business accounts.

The lawyer, who shares his name with Meta’s CEO, Mark Elliot Zuckerberg, claims that Facebook has been flagging his accounts as fraudulent for “impersonating a celebrity.
The lawsuit, filed in Marion Superior Court in Indianapolis, accuses Meta of negligence and breach of contract.
According to court documents, Zuckerberg’s business page has been disabled five times over the past eight years. His personal account has also been suspended four times during the same period.

These disruptions have cost him approximately $11,000 in paid advertisements, as well as lost business opportunities and client outreach.
“It’s like buying a billboard on the side of the highway, paying for it, and then they come and put a giant blanket over it,” Zuckerberg told Indianapolis news station WTHR.
“I’m Mark Steven, and he’s Mark Elliot. I’ve had my name way longer than he has. I’ve got better things to do than sue Facebook. They have more money, more lawyers, and more resources than I do, but I don’t know how else to make them stop,” he explained.

The lawyer’s troubles goes beyond account suspensions. Over the past 15 years, Zuckerberg has faced a barrage of issues due to his shared name with the tech mogul, including death threats, harassment, and mistaken identity incidents.
He has received phone calls and messages intended for the Meta CEO, ranging from complaints about the platform to requests for financial help.
In one instance, he was even sued by the state of Washington due to a mix-up with the other Zuckerberg.

According to Steven, these suspensions have been disruptive to his law practice. Each time his business page is taken down, he loses access to a critical tool for reaching clients, and the appeals process to reinstate his accounts has been slow and inconsistent.
In May 2025, his business page was suspended again, remaining offline for months despite prompt appeals.
The lawsuit seeks an injunction to prevent Meta from further suspending his accounts, as well as unspecified damages for the financial losses incurred.

Meta responded to the lawsuit on September 4, 2025, with a spokesperson stating, “We have reinstated Mark Zuckerberg’s account after finding it had been disabled in error. We appreciate Mr. Zuckerberg’s continued patience on this issue and are working to try and prevent this from happening in the future.”
Despite this, Zuckerberg’s attorney expressed skepticism, noting that previous reinstatements have not prevented recurring suspensions.
