Barcelona icon Lionel Messi put up a spectacular performance to inspire his side to victory over Uruguay in the ongoing Copa America.

The Argentines were drawn into Group A alongside Chile, Bolivia and Uruguay. They kickstart the tournament with an intense 1-1 draw against Chile, thanks to a spectacular Messi free kick.

They went into the game against Uruguay searching for their first and they got exactly that in the 13th minute when Guido Rodriguez heads the ball into the back of the net from a Messi cross.

Uruguay tried everything possible to get back into the game with Argentina also in desperate need of a second goal to put the game beyond reach but both teams failed to score, bringing the game to a 1-0 victory for Argentina with Messi named man of the match.

In the same group, Ben Brereton’s 10th minute strike was also enough for Chile to grab all 3 points against Bolivia to go on level with Argentina at the top with four points each.

Argentina will now face Bolivia in their next match while Chile and Uruguay lock horns in a high profile group A encounter.
