Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission set to license all social media operations in the Country


– NBC to license all social media activities in Nigeria

– This was made known to the public by their Minister of Information, Mr. Lai Mohamed.

– The action followed Twitter’s deletion of a tweet by President Buhari which is branded as ‘Civil War’.

The Minister of Information and Culture for Nigeria, Lai Mohammed has dropped another plans to take control of the Nigerian media as he reveal the National Broadcasting Commission will with immediate effect begin licensing of Social media operations in the country.

The Minister announced this in the in the same time that he made known to the public suspension micro-blogging platform, Twitter, which is popularly used by Nigerian youths, elite and the middle class.

It has always been tough times in Nigeria when it comes to social media platforms especially Twitter where Cyberbullying is very common. As if the controversies were not enough, President Buhari add Sand to their gari with a message that violate the Platforms policy.

“Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through (that) war, will treat them in the language they understand. We are going to be very hard sooner than later,” Buhari, who served in the army against the secessionists” this were the controversial words of the president in a tweet.

Interestingly as it stands now, Twitter is still active in Nigeria despite the ban as stated by the minister, only time will tell if the Government’s decision is a bluff or they mean business.
