No Candidate will Exit NPP after Defeat in the Primaries – KT Hammond

The Former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, in the Ashanti Region, Kwabena Tahiru Hammond, has warned all the presidential aspirants in the New Patriotic Party of plans to exit the party in case they taste defeat in the forthcoming primaries.

The New Patriotic Party, after a shocking defeat in the 2024 elections, has decided to elect a new flagbearer earlier than the normal time to market that person more and gain ground before the 2028 elections.

Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the Party, and the other leaders have scheduled January 31, 2026, as a day for the Presidential Primaries.

  • Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia(2024 Presidential Candidate), Former Vice President
  • Keneddy Agyapong, former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Central Region
  • Former Agric Minister, Brayn Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency, Br in the Eastern Region
  • Former Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe Constituency, Ashanti Region,
  • Former Press Secretary for Former President Kuffuor (2001-2006).

Honorable K.T. Hammond has vowed that war betides any of the candidates above who would leave the party if they do not win the primaries.

He urged all of them to be polite as they campaign, and they should sell their messages devoid of foul language and also not disrespect the party leaders.

Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, popularly known as Alan Cash, former Trade Minister, left the NPP in 2008 after he lost the Presidential Primaries to Former President, Nana Akufo-Addo, and in 2023 after her lost to Dr Bawumia.

The Party Leadership convinced him to return in 2008, but the 2023 exit was a final goodbye. He established a Movement called the Movement for Change and was the 13th Candidate on the 2024 Ballot Paper for Presidential Elections.

In 2025, Alan changed the Movement into an official Party called the United Party.

Mr Hammond says Alan will be the first and last Presidential Aspirant to leave the Party because of defeat. He said none of the current aspirants will be allowed to leave the party if they do not win the party primaries.
