The solid gold toilet sculpture known as America is heading to auction this month and the opening price for bidding is huge.

According to Sotheby, it plans to auction off Maurizio Cattelan’s infamous solid gold toilet sculpture, titled America, on November 18.
The fully functioning toilet seat is made with 18-karat worth of gold and weighs around 223 pounds, (101.15 kilograms).

Sotheby’s says the upcoming sale marks the first time America will be offered at public auction. Bidding is expected to open at roughly $10 million.
The sculpture first grabbed attention when it was installed in a restroom at New York’s Guggenheim Museum in 2016, where visitors could actually use it.

It was later showcased in 2019 at the Blenheim Palace in England where it made headlines after it was stolen during an exhibition.
Authorities later recovered parts of the stolen work, and several people were arrested or charged in connection with the theft.
