For decades, the debate about which country has the best Jollof has been dragged over social media.

Ghana and Nigeria are usually the ones with the loudest voices as they claim they have the best and tasty Jollof.

However, an underdog has surpassed both countries to claim the top spot as the country with the best Jollof.

The Gambia just won the best Jollof at the just-ended West African Food Festival (WAFFEST 2025).

The competition went on from 22nd to 27th September in Accra, Ghana with the final hosted at La-Palm Beach Hotel, Accra.

The highly anticipated contest, featuring The Gambia, Nigeria, and host nation Ghana, brought together the region’s long-standing Jollof rivals battling for the top spot.

In the end, The Gambia Chefs Association again emerged triumphant at the 2025 West Africa Food Festival (WAFFEST) with Ghana coming in second.

Following the win, Gambians at home and abroad flooded social media with celebratory posts, hailing the triumph as proof of their country’s rich culinary heritage.

The result has reignited the famous debate over who truly makes the best Jollof rice, with this year’s victory placing The Gambia firmly in the spotlight.
