The US visa restrictions imposed on Ghana have been reversed

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced a big win regarding the US visa restriction imposed in Ghana.

In a post in his Facebook on the later hours of Saturday, the Minister of the state announced that the US visa restrictions imposed on Ghana have been reversed.

According the minister, the feat was communicated to him by the US through Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker.

The agreement was made at a bilateral meeting in the early hours of Friday in the margins of the ongoing UN General Assembly in New York.

With this new development, Ghanaians can now be eligible for five-year multiple entry visas and other enhanced consular privileges.

“I am really pleased that months of high-level diplomatic negotiations has led to a successful outcome,” he wrote in the post.

Ghana was part part of the 36 countries (25 of which were African countries) that got visa limitations by the US in June this year due to visa overstay.

The restrictions capped visas at three-month single entries, citing concerns over visa overstays, particularly among Ghanaian students.

He concluded that Ghana and the US now share a “healthier and stronger” relationship.
