One of the most anticipated global music awards, the Grammy, took place in the United States of America on February 1, 2026.

People expected their favorites to win, but unfortunately, not everyone can lay their hands on the trophy, regardless of their hard work; however, the world appreciates their sweet melodies.

There’s a special category for Afrobeats, known as the Best African Music Performance, which awards African artists who submit their records for review and are nominated.

It was first awarded in 2023 after taking things into consideration.

Before 2023, continents had slots, but Africa had none, so this was a sign of victory after years of trying to take African music to the world.

Tyla from South Africa won the first edition of the Best African Music Performance award with her breakthrough, WATER, in 2023 over Davido (UNAVAILABLE), Musa Keys (UNAVAILABLE), Burnaboy (CITY BOYS), Ayra Starr(RUSH), Olamide (AMAPIANO), and Asake (AMAPIANO).

Tems from Nigeria won the Best African Music Performance at the 2024 Grammys with LOVE ME JEJE over Davido (SENSATIONAL), Chris Brown (SENSATIONAL), Lojay (SENSATIONAL), Burna Boy (HIGHER), Asake (MMS), Wizkid (MMS), and Yemi Alade (TOMORROW).

In 2026, Tyla won the category for the 2025 year under review with PUSH 2 START over Davido (WITH YOU), Omah Lay ( WITH YOU), Wizkid ( GIMME DAT), Ayra Starr (GIMME DAT), Mehran Matin (HOPE & LOVE), Eddy Kenzo (HOPE & LOVE), and Burna Boy (LOVE).
