The lady went on to ask me a bunch of questions, she asked if I could read well because obviously she did not need a male teacher. I told her about how I was ready to do the job because I stood the chance of being evicted from my home if I didn’t secure the bills. However, the lady also asked me if I could drive and immediately I responded positively. She later informed me that her daughter would be back from holidays in 2 days and it would be my responsibility to teach her and also be her driver. She gave me 15000 cedis and told me she would give an additional 1000 cedis when the month ended. From the look of things, she was obviously rich but this pay was more than I expected.

I picked up her daughter from the airport in 2 days time. She was rude but that was not my concern, I was thinking about how I could start living well as a young man with the money I was being paid. Stella had to rewrite her Science WASSCE paper, her mom could easily have paid to get her into a university but she insisted that she had to go through the system. Teaching her was very difficult because she had no interest in the subject and was only interested in letting me drive her to places and also to meet her fellow rich spoilt friends.
Everything was going quite smoothly until the 7th month into my job. My friends after they realized I was doing better in life decided to know the source. After their investigations they realized I was working for one of the richest woman in the vicinity. They saw the car she gifted me for my hard-work and thought I was having a relationship with her. 3 of them plotted to rob the house after they got to know that the big house only had women living in it. Knowing my friends, they are ruthless when it came to money and I pretended to side with them just so they wouldn’t suspect I was going to sell them out. Lord knows I would be in serious trouble if they sensed I was not on their side.
1 week later, they executed their plan. It was a Saturday evening and they went into the house with arms because they planned on taking a lot of goodies. To their surprise, the house was surrounded with cops and they were arrested right on site. I had informed my madam and she later informed the police about the plot. I however lost my job because the police advised my madam that I was a threat to their security because of the kind of friends I had. Even though I was back to square one, I still felt fulfilled because I knew I had done the right thing.
After Stella wrote her remedial paper few months later, she passed and could now enter the university. Stella convinced her father who lived abroad that she preferred to study abroad. Surprisingly she also managed to convince her father to help me secure a visa to come to the UK with her. She mentioned that I was honorable and saved her and her mother’s life. That’s how we both relocated abroad and happened to get married few years later. The Lord indeed works in mysterious ways.
